Lowndes County School System: Lowndes County Schools is a public school system which serves 10,856 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.  The seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school provide a safe, orderly, and challenging learning environment for students.  Lowndes County School System provides a wide spectrum of learning opportunities.  Students are exposed to the core academic courses; World Language courses; Physical Education courses; Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) courses, Fine Arts courses; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) courses; and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  In addition to academic course offerings, Lowndes County School System has a variety of extra-curricular activities, clubs, and athletic teams for our students. Lowndes County School System is accredited both by AdvancED and the Georgia Accrediting Commission.

K3-12 Private:

Valwood: An independent K-12 college preparatory school, Valwood approaches its mission from three foundational pillars:  to guide students in achieving the highest academic excellence, to instill in them the basics of strong character and to inspire them to a commitment to serve others.  A rigorous curriculum, a student-teacher ratio of 9:1 and a wide range of opportunities for participation in arts, athletics and outdoor/natural activities prepare Valwood students not just for college, but for life.

St. John Catholic School:  Founded in 1941, St. John’s offers a tradition of excellence as well as a diverse population of students of various faiths and ethnicities in K-8 and preschool K3 and K4.  The School’s academics hew to high standards, athletics include cross-country, soccer and basketball, extracurricular activities are varied, and the atmosphere is faith-filled, guided by the fundamentals of the Catholic Church. 

Georgia Christian School: This nearly century-old K3-12 school sits amid age-old oaks on 36 acres of land and offers both college prep and vocational diplomas. Georgia Christian School trains students for success in all walks of life, through excellent academics, low student-teacher ratios and a Christian environment (students attend Bible Class and Chapel every day). The GCS Annual Benefit Dinner began in fall of 2008 has quickly become a local favorite and their largest fundraiser. Speakers have included: Former President & First Lady, George W. and Laura Bush, Heisman Trophy winner, Charlie Ward and country music legend, Vince Gill, just to name a few.

Charter School:

Scintilla Charter Academy: A first of its kind in Valdosta-Lowndes County, Scintilla serves scholars in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The Academy's vision is to provide a spark to ignite a community of people who are excited about the innovative education of our children. Scintilla believes that learning should be fun and challenging. SCA values highly qualified, effective teachers that engage both parents and the community in their scholars educational and character development. Family support and involvement are essential to scholar's success and families are welcomed into the school. With only 480 students, their innovative small school design and a focus on Expeditionary Learning provides an excellent environment for the scholars to learn and thrive.


 Valdosta State University

 When it comes to size, Valdosta State University, with an enrollment of 11,375, ranks 7th in the Georgia system of 35 colleges and universities. But when it comes to surroundings conducive to the learning experience of a lifetime, VSU surely comes in at the very top. Tropical palms and handsome Spanish Mission architecture set the stage for a special experience, and VSU delivers,   incorporating state-of-the-art technology and a next-generation approach to learning and leading in a global world.  Students here earn Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees in more than 90  different programs of study, and while the majority of VSU students are from Georgia, the university’s 2017 enrollment included students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 60 different countries.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College

The nation’s fastest growing public two-year college, named Technical College of the Year in 2010, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College helps its 6,000 credit students hit the ground running in a relentless global marketplace.  Wiregrass offers a full slate of programs (including Digital Media, Tech and Industry, Business, Professional and Healthcare) while collaborating with local employers in targeted workforce training and with other educational providers in creating innovative new learning resources—the new allied health sciences program offered in collaboration with Valdosta State University and South Georgia Medical Center is an excellent example.

Georgia Military College (GMC)

Founded in 1879, Georgia Military College has a long history of service and a wide system of delivery, educating students throughout the state online and at six different campuses and two extension centers.  GMC Valdosta was opened in 1978, and today offers students a solid liberal arts education in a two-year program preparing students for completion of a four-year degree or ready them for immediate employment.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

The major U.S. airlines hire more graduates from Embry-Riddle than any other school; six U.S. astronauts are graduates of this specialized university, which has 150 locations across the world, including one on Moody Air Force Base.  At Embry-Riddle, future aerospace and aviation leaders enjoy an in-depth education in all the many complex issues and demands of the field through a curriculum covering the science, the practice and the business of aviation and aerospace.

Park University

Also located on Moody Air Force Base, Park University offers a particularly strategic opportunity for the non-traditional student, blending innovative delivery with traditional academics.  A variety of degree programs, accelerated formats and flexible options mixing online with face-to-face classroom learning make Park a popular—and practical—choice.
